The following sections will help you quickly start exploring the many uses and benefits of yolink
Searching the internet with yolink is easy. You have the choice of performing searches directly from your search engine of choice (either Google, Yahoo, Live Search, AOL or Ask) or from the yolink toolbar.
- To search from the yolink toolbar, simply perform a search from your favorite search engine (either Google, Yahoo, Live Search, AOL or Ask) and then click the
button (to the immediate right of the yolink search box). Note that if the yolink toolbar is not currently displayed, you can click the button ( in Firefox) to open it.

- To search directly from the search engine (known as Auto yolink), enable the Auto yolink Search Engine option from the
drop-down menu ( in Firefox) and then perform your search from your favorite search engine (either Google, Yahoo, Live Search, AOL or Ask). Note that the search can be performed from the search engine's web pages, search bars, toolbars, or address bars. yolink automatically displays the search results for the keywords typed into the search box.
Using either search option, this opens the Search Results Pane in your browser which instantly lists and separates all results relevant to your keywords into tidy little informational passages. Within these passages, all of your keywords will be highlighted, with a different color used for each individual keyword. By default the Search Results Pane is located on the right side of your browser, with the left side of your browser (referred to as the Preview Pane) containing the search engine results. See the Show Search Results On Right option in Selecting Your Search Options and Preferences for more information.
TIP - To disable Auto yolink, disable the Auto yolink Search Engine option from the drop-down menu ( in Firefox).
TIP - Use any of these features to resize the width of the Search Results Pane to a desired size:
- Use the
icons to expand or contract the width of the Results to a desired size.
- Click the
icon to hide the Preview Pane and display your results in a full-screen view. To toggle back to the split-screen view, click the icon.
- Drag the border between the Preview and Search Results Pane to a desired size.
- Use the Search Results Pane Width feature from the
drop-down menu ( in Firefox).
In addition to being able to search the initial search engine results, a powerful feature of yolink allows you to search individual web pages. Use this feature to find information buried within large documents such as online reference manuals, text books, specifications and contracts. For example, when searching for keywords in a very large web page or online document, there is no need to sift through the matching results one-by-one. yolink will display all of your matching keywords in context in a single handy list of results in the Search Results Pane.
As an added benefit, you can choose to search both a web page and its embedded links. No longer will you need to manually open and examine individual links. For example, you are searching Craigslist for a second-hand mountain bike using "mountain bike" as your search term. Dozens of ads for mountains bikes are found. But you need to find one locally in "San Diego" and many sellers live too far away for you to drive. With yolink, you don't have to open and scan through each of those ads to find out where the seller is located. Simply enter San Diego in the yolink search box and click the Search Links button to find and display any text in any of the ads that contain the words San Diego.
You can also change or modify your search keywords at any time to find additional results of interest within the web page or links.
The available options for searching web pages are listed below. To use any one of these button options, click the right side of the Search button and select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu.
 |
Clicking this button searches the links in the current web page or the page currently open in the Preview Pane of the browser. |
 |
Clicking this button searches the information and links in the current web page or the page currently open in the Preview Pane of the browser. |
 |
Clicking this button searches the information and links in any manually highlighted selection of text and links in the current web page or the page currently open in the Preview Pane of the browser. For example, drag your cursor to select and highlight any or all of the text and/or links on a web page. The example below illustrates selecting a group of links from the wikipedia page for Yellowstone National Park.
Then click the Search Highlighted Links button. Only the highlighted text and links will be searched. In our example, we entered Old Faithful in the yolink search box. Notice how only the links that contain references to Old Faithful are returned.
You can also limit your search to multiple non-adjacent sections of text and links by holding down the Ctrl key when dragging your cursor. |
By default, yolink returns the results that are the Best Match for your keywords. However, several convenient and easy-to-use options are available for refining your search terms.
Additional Preferences are also available for customizing the yolink display and user experience.

Allow Breakouts For Firefox only: When searching in Firefox using the Search Page button, certain web sites do not automatically allow yolink to force a split screen and search the page. In such cases, a prompt displays asking whether you want to navigate away from this page (that is, reject searching the web site). Selecting the Allow Breakouts option suppresses these prompts, automatically rejecting searching such web sites.
